Proudly carrying on a tradition....
We are a small family farm continuing a tradition of agriculture....
Mitchell Cat Creek Farms raises and finishes grass fed beef, sustained on plentiful pastures in the summer, and fed high quality hay forage produced on our farm throughout the winter. We utilize practices like bale unrolling and bale grazing to regenerate our soils, in order to allow us to provide nutrient dense beef. We are located in gorgeous Hersey, Michigan.
We raise a variety of cattle including: registered Angus, and registered Belted Galloway. We proudly have all three colors of Registered Belted Galloway, and work to carry on a great heritage breed. We offer small amounts of cattle for sale a year, that are raised following our system of grazing with low inputs. We practice adaptive rotational grazing for our herd, and feel that by managing how the cattle graze we can help heal and regenerate the land. We handle cattle with low stress methods and work to ensure our cattle have comfortable lives, while focusing on environmental sustainability. Cattle health, stress, and quality of life are the pinnacle beliefs that drive our farm, along with efforts to farm as environmentally friendly as we can, so that our farm and land may continue healthy and beautiful well past our years. Leading from the frontIf you remember last year our grazing manager Brandi won the Michigan Forage Council’s Forage Spokesperson Contest.

Roots so Deep Screening
What a fantastic night! We are beyond proud to have partnered with the MSU Culinary team to get Mitchell Cat Creek Farms beef on the plates of students and documentary attendees tonight. We were featured at the event for the innovative regenerative methods we use on our farm, such as intensive adaptive grazing, winter impact application through feeding and our overall holistic land use which restore birds and bugs to the landscape. But the star of the show was surely our beef! We received so many compliments on our beef, from the chefs to MSU students, which means so much to us. We then got to watch a showing of the docuseries - Roots so Deep, and afterwards our very own grazing manager Brandi was on the Q & A panel! Brandi did an excellent job representing the farm, and sharing her thoughts along with Dr. Jason Rowntree, Director Peter Byck, fellow farmer Brooks Bowser, and Janice Swanson. Thank you to everyone - Jordan & Brandi Mitchell We are BQA Certified in: Cow/Calf, Stocker/Backgrounder, and Feedyard
We are proudly members of the following cattle groups: Michigan Cattlemen's Association (MCA), National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA), The Livestock Conservancy, Michigan Forage Council (MFC), Belted Galloway Society, Great Lakes Belted Galloway Association (GLBGA), Michigan Angus Association and The American Angus Association (AAA). We have proudly completed the Master of Beef Advocacy Beef Checkoff Program, and attended MSU's beginner & advanced Grazing Schools.
We are also in a study with the Savory Institute and continue to advance our knowledge of holistic grazing management. Brandi our grazing manager, was also able to attend a Soil Health Academy School in 2023 to further her skills as an advanced grazier. She is also attending a second Soil Health Academy fall of 2024. We are a MAEAP verified farm - in 4 systems: Livestock, Farmstead, Cropping, and Forest Wetland & Habitat. That puts our farm as one of 36 in the state to proudly have all 4 verifications. We are proud to have received recognition for farming with environmental stewardship as one of our top standards. |
